[Editor’s Note: We received this guest column in the mail the other day, in a crumpled envelope addressed only to “Videogames” and with no discernable return address. I don’t know how Dr. Brule found out where I live, but I thought it was only right to transcribe the letter for Internet reading. Enjoy!]

We all love video games. My favorite game has swords, uh, and knights — and you trade in your magic crystals to get a shield. The only problem with all of these games is that they’re so darn expensive! Well, thankfully ol’ Dr. Steve Brule is here to give you a few tips on how to save money on games.

King of Fighters Trailer is AMAZING November 29, 2009

The promo trailer for the upcoming King of Fighters film adaptation was released today, and let me be the first to say that this movie will be awesome (underlined, bolded and italicized for emphasis on how awesome it will be).  With the astute direction of “acclaimed action director” Gordon Chan and the powerhouse trio of Maggie Q, Sean Farris and Ray Park, this movie can’t go wrong.

The raw emotion contained only within this trailer is phenomenal. When that one dude yells at 1:27 I almost cried. And that’s not even mentioning the groundbreaking action choreography. They fight with TRASH BAGS. How awesome is that?

I know it may be a little early, but let me just say right now: King of Fighters will be the Citizen Kane of movies. It will replace Citizen Kane as the Citizen Kane of movies, and from now on when people are debating the artistic merit of video games, they’ll have to ask: “When will we see the King of Fighters of video games?” The only answer: we already have.

Some people may say that this movie trailer is, in fact, not awesome, but those people are stupid and wrong. They just can’t appreciate the brilliance of this work of art.

Valve brings lag-free servers to Xbox Live November 26, 2009

Xbox 360 users witnessed  a Thanksgiving miracle today as Valve updated their Left 4 Dead 2 network infrastructure for Xbox Live. The developer promises “lag-free” servers for 360 users.

I’ve been waiting for this news ever since the launch of L4D2. The game is hard enough as it is without debilitating lag, and I can’t wait to get back to the silky-smooth zombie goodness.

Steam just won’t let up.

After my post earlier today about the awesome Plants vs. Zombies deal, Steam announced their five-day-long one-day-only sale. The sale, lasting through Sunday, promises some sweet deals on popular games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dragon Age: Origins.

While we don’t intend to serve as Valve’s advertising strumpet, these deals are just too good to pass up. (Plus, we’re not whoring ourselves if they don’t pay us for it!)

Check out the full deals after the break:

And just when you thought that games couldn’t get any cheaper, Steam comes through again. From now until Thursday the 26th, you can buy Pop Cap’s undead tower defense game, Plants vs. Zombies for half price on Steam. That’s only $5! A whole $5 less than the original price! (Which, for those arithmetically challenged out there, is $10.)

Due to what can only be described as aggressive laziness, I never bought Plants vs. Zombies when it first came out, but now I have my chance!

"Dude, shes totally checking you out, just go talk to her!"

Bayonetta is a new third person action game brought to you guys from Sega. One plays as a witch, with guns on the heels of her stilettos as she kills waves after waves of angels to reap their halo’s. The game isn’t slated to release until next year, but guess who got early access to play the demo from Sega?

Yours truly.

Gaming Alone; Youve gone too far off the map November 16, 2009

As Zoey can attest to, being alone can have its consequences

Gaming has always been an immediate aspect of my life, both personal and social. In high school I was surrounded by many friends who shared this passion. Senior year came, left and we all went our separate ways. Like my co-editor Chris McKenna I, also went to the east coast and found the gaming scene there to be a little “different.”

And by “different” I mean “non-existent.”

Confirmed: “Modern Warfare 2 Sucks” November 15, 2009

Well, it’s official. It wasn’t the “Grenade Spam” controversy, or the lack of dedicated servers for the PC that did Modern Warfare 2 in. It was an angry British teen.

In a YouTube video entitled “MODERN WARFARE 2 SUCKS!!!!!,” user GuitarJono1170 gracefully articulates his arguments against the game, mostly through indecipherable mumblings and acts of violence against inanimate objects.

A forewarning: this video may be disturbing to people particularly affected by depictions of drywall abuse.

How Morrowind helped me survive my first semester of college November 10, 2009

MGE Screenshot 3 closeup

"We're watching you, brah."

I step out of the car and into the warm, humid air. Right away I’m confronted with a barrage of new and interesting sights, sounds, and smells. In the distance I can see a building. I walk towards it, open up its large, heavy doors, and descend a flight of granite steps to the dark basement below. There I’m greeted by a man who asks me for my name, my place of origin, my room number and my birthsign…

“Oh my God,” I think to myself. “This is Morrowind.”

Obviously, it wasn’t Morrowind. Not really. It was my college orientation, and although the resident assistants didn’t really ask for my birthsign, the rest of the ordeal was eerily similar.
