C+P Review: Assasins Creed 2; Assassini e Puttane! December 10, 2009

Ubisofts’ Assassins Creed plunged players in the role of Altair, an angsty Middle Easterner who’s just trying to get by. Paying the insurance on his horse, constantly buying those pesky throwing knives (seriously, I went through those things like candy) and of course trying to thwart a pseudo-religious conspiracy in which the Knight Templars are trying to take over the world. Or something.

But as it turns down, in the worst kept plot twist in any video game ever, you are not actually Altair! The player is one Desmond Miles, a confused young man looking for love in all the wrong places and playing way too many virtual reality games.

He straps himself to the Animus for the second time, this time, going to Italy during the Renaissance.

Does the sequel deliver? Or does it fall on its face like a poorly planned leap of faith?

Borderlands. What can I say about Borderlands?

Imagine Diablo: scores of baddies throwing themselves upon you, with only your inventory and stash of potions to fend them off.

Now hold that image, except place yourself in a backwater mining colony on the planet Pandora (aka a Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic wasteland), and replace the hordes of skeletons, goat-men, and (annoying) succubi with bandits and vicious alien creatures (like “skags” and “spiderants”).

Next, replace your spells and steel with bullets, electricity, and rocket-mounted “Outrunners”. Get the picture?

Check out the full review after the jump.

brutal

Since Tim Schafer’s masterpiece, Psychonauts, Double Fine began working on a new project.  As I obsessively read the previews, I was excited about all the aspects of the game. Jack Black voicing the main character? Awesome. A world designed after an entire genre of music? Sweet. An RTS aspect? Ummmm…

So does Brutal Legend deserve a spot in the Schafer hall of fame? Or does it brutally disappoint? Hit the jump to find out.

They say when you intentionally enter the jaws of madness; you will be consumed by it forever.

And nothing says “madness” better than an Asylum filled with the most deranged psychopaths that only writers at DC comics could come up with. I’m talking of course about Arkham Asylum.

Rocksteady delivered what is supposed to be, not only the best Batman game ever, but completely redefine the comic book-game genre.

But does Arkham Asylum hold its own as a serious game in this serious market?

Fallout 3 has taken you too many places; a video game within a video game, a slave-powered Pittsburg, a giant mobile tank base, and Maryland. Now it takes you where no Vault Dweller has ever gone before, space!

With the newest and last of the Fallout 3 DLC, you board the Mothership Zeta to face, what else? Aliens. (And not the Scott Ridley kind.)

But is it worth the 800 Microsoft Points? Hit the jump to find out.

C+P DLC Review: The Wasteland expands with ‘Point Lookout’ July 2, 2009

Let’s face it. A giant swamp in Maryland is probably not the average person’s idea of an ideal vacation spot. The appeal is then only bogged down with the addition of mutated locals, bloodthirsty ghouls, vicious wildlife, and hallucinogenic plants (well maybe not the last one).  Yet, the Lone Wanderer has never been one for convention, which is why he accepts a shady riverboat captain’s questionable offer to venture to Point Lookout.

‘Point Lookout’ is the fourth DLC release for Fallout 3 to come out of Xbox Live. Is it worth 800 MicrosoftPoints to suit up in some Power Armor and enter the Capital Wasteland all over again?

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a pretty big Magic: The Gathering fan. I first picked up the habit in junior high, when I thought that things like orcs riding dragon mounts were the coolest thing in the world, and it seems like every few years I pick it back up again, with only a slight twinge of self-loathing.

Now, when I heard that Stainless Games – whose past games include old Atari ports and an adaptation of Scrabble – in conjuntion with  Wizards of the Coast,  was making a new Xbox Live Arcade version of the trading card game, I was adequately excited.

See what I think of the game in my full review after the break.

Alex doesnt like it when you compare him to inFamous' Cole

Alex doesnt like it when you compare him to inFamous' Cole

Alex Mercer is not a nice guy. He doesn’t talk to his family, treats his girlfriend like crap, he is in fact a terrorist, oh, he also enjoys cutting people to pieces with his claws as he consumes their entire bodies for a health boost.

But most wouldn’t be too happy after waking up in a morgue with no memory and a bunch of super powers which you have no idea where they came from. On top of that someone has unleashed a killer virus in Penn Station which is now claiming the lives of millions living in New York. This and the military find themselves trying to kill you at every turn. Not a good way to start the next 18 days in which one will find out the mysteries of [Prototype].
