Brink is certainly shaping up to be one to watch come next fall. While much of the E3 press for the game has been positive, you can only really get a feel what people have been raving about when you see the game in motion.

Developer Splash Damage, who have previously worked on only multiplayer expansion packs for existing franchises, such as Doom 3 and Quake Wars, have releases three videos from their E3 demo from earlier this year.

The first shows off the game’s SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) system. The game appears to be building off of where Mirror’s Edge left off, implementing a efficient and streamlined movement system, but giving you just enough control so as to dissuade any feelings of autopilot.

The second and third videos show this system incorporated into Brink’s gunplay. The game has a very Borderlands vibe, with its experience dropping enemies. Also displayed is the game’s class system, which allows you to change your character’s load-out mid-game, to best fit the current combat situation. Classes featured include the stealth special operative and the engineer.

Brink’s campaign will feature up to 7 player drop-in/drop-out cooperative play, extensive character customization, and various tattoos to hide your numerous body insecurities. Get ready to enter the fray come fall 2010.

Videos after the jump.

Borderlands. What can I say about Borderlands?

Imagine Diablo: scores of baddies throwing themselves upon you, with only your inventory and stash of potions to fend them off.

Now hold that image, except place yourself in a backwater mining colony on the planet Pandora (aka a Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic wasteland), and replace the hordes of skeletons, goat-men, and (annoying) succubi with bandits and vicious alien creatures (like “skags” and “spiderants”).

Next, replace your spells and steel with bullets, electricity, and rocket-mounted “Outrunners”. Get the picture?

Confirmed: “Modern Warfare 2 Sucks” November 15, 2009

Well, it’s official. It wasn’t the “Grenade Spam” controversy, or the lack of dedicated servers for the PC that did Modern Warfare 2 in. It was an angry British teen.

In a YouTube video entitled “MODERN WARFARE 2 SUCKS!!!!!,” user GuitarJono1170 gracefully articulates his arguments against the game, mostly through indecipherable mumblings and acts of violence against inanimate objects.

A forewarning: this video may be disturbing to people particularly affected by depictions of drywall abuse.

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward Creative Strategist and MW2 Twitter overlord recently posted the high quality version of the Modern Warfare 2 launch trailer made available earlier today through Internet thievery.

This new trailer promises a lot of things, including white rapper sensation Eminem, boats, pull-quotes and some exploding space stations: everything that the trailer-watching masses eat up. Enjoy!

College! No parents!

College! No parents!

College is all about being social. Your number of phone contacts skyrockets, as does your Facebook friend count; routine activities such as eating, studying, and sleeping (high five!) are no longer done solo. Freshmen are terrified of being alone, even for five minutes—you start wondering, “What’s everyone else doing? I bet they’re doing something really fun. Why hasn’t anybody texted me? Does anyone like me?” And then the bitter tears start flowing…

Earlier today, Robert Bowling, also known as fourzerotwo on the Twitters, posted a link to some new Modern Warfare 2 footage on Youtube.

The clip, which showcases a new capture-the-flag gametype as well as a slew of new weapons, looks wild, chaotic, and pretty as hell. Well, as pretty as war can be, at least. There are also throwing knives. As in knives that you can throw. You know the knife from the original Modern Warfare? Well this knife is like that one, except it can be used as a deadly projectile. Did we mention throwing knives?

Anyway, check out the full video after the break.

This guy just made kill no. 4,345,023.

This guy just made kill no. 4,345,023.

Battlefield 1943, released this Wednesday on the Xbox 360 and Thursday on the PS3, is off to a good start on its Coral Sea Challenge, which promises a 4th map for players once they reach 43 million community kills.

According to the counter on the official website, the Xbox community has reached 10,986,498 with the Playstation 3 trailing slightly behind at 6,541,270.

The game saw some problems on the Xbox 360 due to lack of server space, according to a forum post by Gordon Van Dyke, a Producer for Battlefield 1943.

“We have reached server capacity,” Van Dyke said,”but the bad news about this now some people can’t join unless someone leaves. But don’t worry, we are adding more servers ASAP to Xbox and in preparation PS3 that should start going up ASAP with priority on Xbox 360.”

This was a game that I had been looking forward to playing, and even plugged a Copy+Paste event on our forums, but when I finally downloaded it two nights ago, I was unable to play due to server problems.

I was able to play last night, and it worked fine. Co-editor Santiago Azpurua-Borras and I had an awesome time zooming around in jeeps, blowing up buildings, and causing general havoc. The best feature of this game: you can blow up trees. TREES.

For those who haven’t downloaded it yet, don’t worry, the community looks like they’ll be reaching the 43 million mark pretty soon, so you might not have to do any work and still reap all the rewards.

And if you have, check out the thread on our forums and join in on the fun.

C+P DLC Review: The Wasteland expands with ‘Point Lookout’ July 2, 2009

Let’s face it. A giant swamp in Maryland is probably not the average person’s idea of an ideal vacation spot. The appeal is then only bogged down with the addition of mutated locals, bloodthirsty ghouls, vicious wildlife, and hallucinogenic plants (well maybe not the last one).  Yet, the Lone Wanderer has never been one for convention, which is why he accepts a shady riverboat captain’s questionable offer to venture to Point Lookout.

‘Point Lookout’ is the fourth DLC release for Fallout 3 to come out of Xbox Live. Is it worth 800 MicrosoftPoints to suit up in some Power Armor and enter the Capital Wasteland all over again?

A picture of said protesters (But not really)

Many were pleased with last week’s announcement that Valve’s popular zombie holocaust simulator Left 4 Dead would be getting a sequel on November 17th of this year.

Some people: not so much.

A Steam group has been assembled, with membership over 18,000 (at the time of publication), to boycott the release. Calling Left 4 Dead 2 “Valve’s new money grab,” the protest group has outlined a series of complaints, and nailed them, Martin-Luther style, on Valve’s figurative (and virtual) church doors.

Check out the full story for the complete list of complaints.

We apologize for the headline. (Sort of.)

Yesterday, EA and Valve announced they would be releasing a sequel to 2008’s awarding-winning zombie co-op shooter.

With the second wave of the infection set to drop on November 17th, Left 4 Dead 2 will take gamers on the misadventures of an all new group of four survivors through the American South.

Two of the new survivors will be featured on the August issue of PC Gamer. Rochelle (left) is an aspiring news anchor, while Coach (right) is a heavy set P.E. instructor.

Beside added environmental effects, a major addition to gameplay will be the addition of melee weapons. Hinted towards in the trailer are a chainsaw, fire axe, and frying pan.

A new type of special infected will be included as well; known as “The Charger.”

IGN reports that all campaigns will take place during the daytime. They will also have  much stronger narrative connections than the last game, including one that may take place in an area that has yet to be hit by the infection.

What do you guys think? Are you hungry for another zombie apocalypse?

Teaser trailer after the  jump.
