Xbox 360 users witnessed  a Thanksgiving miracle today as Valve updated their Left 4 Dead 2 network infrastructure for Xbox Live. The developer promises “lag-free” servers for 360 users.

I’ve been waiting for this news ever since the launch of L4D2. The game is hard enough as it is without debilitating lag, and I can’t wait to get back to the silky-smooth zombie goodness.

LostPlanet2_psd_jpgcopyToday, Capcom announced that Xbox LIVE subscribers will be able to sample the sweet, sweet taste of giant salamander meat in the Lost Planet 2 co-op demo, set to release next Wednesday.

Xbox LIVE Gold members will be able to download the demo on the 19th, while Silver subscribers will have to wait another whole week to hop in on the multiplayer goodness.

The demo is the same one showcased at this year’s E3 and Comic-con, and features a whole slew of weapons and mech suits for up to 4 players to stomp around in. It focuses on an epic battle with an enormous salamander, in which players can slice of limbs or even be swallowed whole, Pinocchio-style.

The final release date for Lost Planet 2 is yet to be announced.

Fight people wearing metal suits!

Capcom’s fan favorite, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, is finally making its way onto Xbox LIVE Arcade today, and can be purchased for a pithy 1200 Microsoft Points (about 15 dollars in real-world money.)

The game, which had been going for well over $100 on systems like the Dreamcast, will be available for download and online play.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 pits 56 characters from both Marvel and Capcom universes  like Iron Man, Captain America, Ryu from Street Fighter and Jill Valentine from Resident Evil,  against one another in mortal combat (but not kombat).

Check it out today for Xbox Live, and for the PS3 owners out there, the game should be hitting PSN for $14.99 on August 13.

C+P DLC Review: The Wasteland expands with ‘Point Lookout’ July 2, 2009

Let’s face it. A giant swamp in Maryland is probably not the average person’s idea of an ideal vacation spot. The appeal is then only bogged down with the addition of mutated locals, bloodthirsty ghouls, vicious wildlife, and hallucinogenic plants (well maybe not the last one).  Yet, the Lone Wanderer has never been one for convention, which is why he accepts a shady riverboat captain’s questionable offer to venture to Point Lookout.

‘Point Lookout’ is the fourth DLC release for Fallout 3 to come out of Xbox Live. Is it worth 800 MicrosoftPoints to suit up in some Power Armor and enter the Capital Wasteland all over again?

Hit the jump to find out.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a pretty big Magic: The Gathering fan. I first picked up the habit in junior high, when I thought that things like orcs riding dragon mounts were the coolest thing in the world, and it seems like every few years I pick it back up again, with only a slight twinge of self-loathing.

Now, when I heard that Stainless Games – whose past games include old Atari ports and an adaptation of Scrabble – in conjuntion with  Wizards of the Coast,  was making a new Xbox Live Arcade version of the trading card game, I was adequately excited.

See what I think of the game in my full review after the break.

Your Avatar can’t have sex: Microsoft unveils new XNA rules June 22, 2009

Dont worry - the only thing this Avatar is high on is life.

Don't worry - the only thing this Avatar is high on is life.

A person’s Xbox Live Avatar is something unique to them: a virtual representation of one’s personal desires, aspirations — and even dreams (as expressed through various clothes and hairstyles.)

Your avatar can do anything you can do. That is, anything that you can do that doesn’t include sex, drugs, or violence.

Earlier this month, Microsoft released a set of rules that Xbox Live Indie Games creators have to abide by when creating a game that features Avatars.

Obscene gestures, bodily fluids, and criminal acts are all forbidden, understandably; but Microsoft has also banned other, stranger things like an avatar talking, wearing alternate clothing or having its proportions modified.

Gore is prohibited – but Avatars can be subjected to cartoon or sports-related violence, and can even die (temporarily). If that isn’t disturbing, I don’t know what is.

For the full list of regulated acts, hit the jump.

Lets face it, XNA games are less that spectacular. While there have been exceptions (Machiavelli’s Ascent)  this game surely takes the cake.

Angry Barry is a slick-looking slide scrolling game has you in the role of the first African-American President beating people up, picking up park benches to be used as weapons, and killing enemies to obtain their votes.

A part of me really wants to be kidding about this whole thing.

Its on the marketplace right now for 400 MS points.

Magic: The Gathering on XBLA the 17th June 5, 2009

Xbox Live is bringing us a lot in these next few months: Last.fm, Twitter, Facebook, and now, Magic: The Gathering.

Duels of the Planeswalkers, set for release June 17th, has a lot to offer at an estimated 40 hours of singleplayer campaign, 8 playable decks and over 280 cards.

Playing through the campaign unlocks cards and decks to customize your Duels experience. The game has been designed to assure whatever deck you make will be properly balanced – so you won’t find any Big Furry Monsters in this game.

As with any good Magic game, the fun is in the duels – you can play either head-to-head against or cooperatively with other players over Xbox Live.

Or, if you’re more of a people person you can challenge up to 3 other players in an all out free-for-all battle.

Players will also recieve a physical card with purchase – and it’s a damn good one, too.

Check out Duels of the Planeswalkers on Xbox Live Arcade on the 17th and look for our review soon after.
